thanksgiving meal

We hosted our final G-Chat of the semester on November 18. Dinner Rolls and Gender Roles was designed to provide space to discuss how gender roles become increasingly salient during the holiday times. Women’s Center student staff Nina Banks and Bea Pearson organized and co-facilitated the event. Attendees discussed internal and interpersonal tensions that arise during the transition from being on campus to going home during the holiday season. We discussed feelings of anxiety and pressure to revert back to those roles and offered space for people to share concerns and offer support.

When asked what valuable insight she gained from the discussion Emma McReady said

“I never thought about holidays as gendered spaces so I thought it was interesting to see how gender does play a role and how every family is different.”
