The Women’s Center offers programs throughout the year that are open to all members of the Wake Forest community. In addition to the signature year-long programs listed below, we regularly collaborate with on-campus partners to plan programs that are relevant to our community. The best way to stay up to date on programmatic offerings is to join our newsletter listserve.

Deacon Doulas

Deacon Doulas are trained, volunteer birth companions who provide continuous physical and emotional support to laboring patients at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Birth Center, at no cost to the patient themselves. Deacon Doulas serve medicaid-insured, uninsured, and teen patients since these people are often unable to afford private doula care. To learn more about becoming a deacon doula, click here.

G-Chats

G-Chats are monthly opportunities to connect with faculty outside of the classroom in an informal way. Faculty leaders discuss the ways that their research, scholarship, or teaching intersects with gender. Conversations are grounded in scholarly inquiry and led by faculty experts, but they are also spaces for anyone who wants to learn more about a topic, whether or not you are an expert. Join our newsletter listserve to learn more about this year’s featured faculty.

LEAVES

LEAVES is a student peer-to-peer mentoring program that connects students who care about gender equity with each other and cultivates formal mentoring relationships between students across class years. LEAVES attend events together, gather monthly in the Women’s Center, and connect 1:1 with their mentors to navigate daily challenges and success. If you are interested in being a peer mentor in 2025, please complete this form. Peer mentors are matched with one mentee and work with that person for the duration of the Spring semester. You cannot participate in LEAVES if you are going to be abroad in the Spring.
