Fostering Healthy Masculinities at Wake
Last Tuesday, the Women’s Center hosted the first meeting of our year-long Healthy Masculinities program. Led by Graduate Assistant Nate Wulff, the group of five attendees discussed purpose and goals for the group in the coming year and engaged in group-building exercises such as illustrating your idea of a “chill person” and your favorite way of engaging in sports. The Healthy Masculinities program is a group for men and trans-masc people to build awareness of masculinities, their overall impact on themselves, others and the broader community. In the future, the group would like to open up the space to gender-inclusive discussion of masculinity.
“Wake Forest is a place with pressure from academics, social groups and success. Masculinity, for everyone, plays into those pressures being increased and bought into and that can become very harmful to individuals and to those around them. And yet there’s hope.” ~Nate Wulff
