Last Thursday, The Women’s Center staff hosted our first G-chat of the semester. G-Chat is a monthly Women’s Center event where we discuss gender-related topics in a safe, gender-inclusive, gender-empowering space. We had 16 people in attendance discussing the presence and impact of gendered spaces at Wake while munching on chicken, loaded baked potatoes, and dessert.

Some of the topics we discussed last week–curated, organized and facilitated by our student worker Bea Pearson–included: what are some gendered spaces we are a part of on Wake? Do these gendered spaces make us feel comfortable and/or at home? Are they becoming obsolete?

“I really enjoyed the experience and I loved getting to hear from everybody in the room! I appreciated the vulnerability.” -G-chat attendee

Look out for our next G-Chat, which will be co-facilitated by two of our students workers in October, on the Women’s Center newsletter and all our social media platforms!
