    Summer Research Fellows Program

    The Anna Julia Cooper Center Summer Research programFrom the Anna Julia Cooper Center: “The Anna Julia Cooper Center Summer Research program is a competitive program designed to provide undergraduate students with cohort experience in conducting research. This program requires a full 8-week commitment, June 5- July 31. Participants in the program take part in seminars, lectures, and social events. At the end of the program, students give presentations of their research and get valuable feedback from students, postdocs, and faculty. Applications for the program are due March 24. Housing and a stipend are provided.”

    Students interested in the program should be interested in conducting research with an intersectional focus of gender, race, and region.

    Chinuntdet-Crowe Leadership Scholarship

    From the Office of Student Engagement: “Wake Forest University is pleased to announce the Chinuntdet-Crowe Leadership Scholarship. John Chinundet ‘88 and his wife, Tonya Crowe-Chinuntdet ‘88, have established an annual scholarship of $4000 which will be awarded to an upper-class student (rising Sophomore, Junior, Senior) who has excelled in campus leadership at the university. Applicants should be students in good standing with the university who have demonstrated “leadership skills by extensive involvement in, and leadership of, student organizations recognized by Wake Forest.”

    The application deadline is Friday, March 31st, 2017, and the recipient will be recognized at the SOAR Awards.     Freedom School Servant Leaders

    From the Anna Julia Cooper Center: “Are you a college aged student or recent graduate? Interested in Education, and Social Justice? Apply today to be a Freedom School Servant Leader Intern in Winston Salem from June 26- August 4. Applications are due by March 31. Leaders will be notified on April 11. Accepted Servant Leader Interns will be placed at one of the four Freedom School sites in Winston Salem including: Wake Forest University, Kimberly Park Elementary, Anthony’s Plot, and East Forsyth Middle School. This position is funded through AmeriCorps Vista. Leaders will receive monthly income and an AmeriCorps Education award at the conclusion of the program.”

    McKinsey Undergraduate Women’s Summit

    “The McKinsey Undergraduate Women’s Summit was established with the goal of meeting and supporting talented female undergraduates in their professional growth. The one-day program will include “Consulting 101,” an exciting keynote speaker, problem-solving overview, and other activities. We hope you’ll join us to learn and connect with your peers alongside a group of inspiring professional women.

    Gatekeepers Workshops

    In fall 2009, the Office of the Provost began to offer Gatekeepers Workshops in partnership with the Wake Forest Professional Development Center. A “gatekeeper” is any member of the Wake Forest community who represents the University through his or her interaction with students, faculty, staff, and other constituents. These workshops are intended to engage “gatekeepers” through training, networking, and skill building opportunities on a range of topics that are relevant to the Wake Forest community and it’s Strategic Plan.

    Open to all Wake Forest alumni, faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students.  You must register to attend through the Professional Development Center, and attend session 1 to attend session 2.

    Session 1: “Enhancing Our Community Through Inclusion”

    Session 2: “Cross Cultural Conflict and Dialogue”

    Session 3: “Contact Theory and Dialogue”

    Session 4: “Unconscious Bias”

    Safe Zone Training

    The Safe Zone program is an in-depth, interactive presentation designed to educate Wake Forest faculty, staff, and students about the LGBTQ community. Anti-LGBTQ bias and prejudice affects all members of a community, and we all have the opportunity to work against it. Participants learn what it means to be an ally—a person who supports and stands up for the rights of LGBTQ people—as well as how to create a Safe Zone.

    Allies who have completed the training program will be given a Safe Zone sticker, identifiable to the entire campus, which may be displayed on the ally’s door to designate it as a safe place for all members of the community.
